Let's talk about something interested about both of the clan jetties.
Chew Jetty is said to be the more known and prominent one among the nine clan jetties of Pengkalan Weld. You can trace its origin back to the earlier Chinese settlements in Penang who built these village on stilts.
While Tan Jetty is one of the nine clan jetties in George Town. It is the third clan jetty from the north, located between Chew Jetty and Lee Jetty.
Todays, there are only 7 clan jetties still intacts todays which are:
- ONG Jetty
- LIM Jetty
- CHEW Jetty
- TAN Jetty
- LEE Jetty
- NEW Jetty
- YEOH Jetty
While the other two jetties, PENG AUN Jetty and KOAY Jetty were demolished in 2006 to give way to a high-rise housing development project.

After visited the both jetties, we decided to have a rest at one of a must visit cafe at Chew Jetty area which is Sekeping Vistoria! The cafe is situated along Lebuh Victoria, which Waze has a pretty accurate location on it. The cafe isn't very visible from the outside as it's shaded by trees at the entrance.

Sekeping Victoria is an exteded member of the Sekeping Retreat group, Sekeping Victoria is the group's first "branch" in Penang. The Sekeping brand is famous for its rustic-forestry retreat; similarity, Sekeping Victoria is designed for those who are looking for a quiet escape from the fast and busy city life. Ironically, Sekeping Victoria is located in the heartland of Georgetown - Victoria Street, off the bustling Weld Quay and Beach Street.
